Fishing Facilities and Innovation
Fishing in the Paleopotamos lagoon is mainly carried out using permanently installed concrete fish traps at the communication points with the sea, where the fish is trapped and then collected during its migration to the open sea.
The temporal distribution of the fish is determined by the migratory patterns applicable to the different species. Due to the function of the lagoons as nurseries, a significant proportion of the fish consists of individuals smaller than the Minimum Allowable Size.
The cooperative implements in its fish farming facilities, escape hatches for undersized fish, with particular emphasis on the simultaneous improvement of water circulation which is vital for the environmental conditions of the lagoon.
